Mike Mitchell - Head Softball Coach

Mitchell began coaching as the head coach of the Maroons' softball program in 2009.

Mitchell led the Maroons to finish the 2023 season with a 29-14 overall and 17-3 conference record which was good for 1ST place. The team reached the ODAC tournament championship game. For the second year in a row the Maroons received and NCAA at large bid and lost in the finals of the regionals to CNU.

The 2022 season was capped with a 30-14 overall and 12-6 conference record in the ODAC. They reached the ODAC tournament championship game finishing second. The Maroons received an at large bid to the NCAA tournament and competed in the Cleveland regional

The 2013 Maroons were 31-14 and 15-5 in ODAC play. The Maroons earned an at-large bid to the 2013 NCAAD III Regional Tournament. The Maroons second-straight NCAA Regional Tournament bid resulted in Roanoke being a site for the Regional Tournament.

The 2012 season was a banner year for the program, going 35-11, claiming the ODAC Championship and the Newport News Regional Title, earning the program's eighth NCAA Tournament bid and advancing to the NCAA Division III Softball National Championship tournament, where they finished fourth in the country.

In 2011, the Maroons went 27-11 overall and 12-6 in conference play and were ranked third in the ODAC Tournament.

Mitchell led the Maroons to its ninth 30-win season with a 30-9 mark in 2010. The 13-5 conference mark placed second in the ODAC.


David Mays - Assistant Softball Coach

Dave Mays, Assistant Women's Softball Coach at Roanoke College, is a 1983 graduate of Virginia Tech. In addition to his corporate career with Allstate, Dave has coached baseball in the Roanoke Valley from Little League to the collegiate level for over twenty-seven years. He has also provided individual pitching, hitting and defensive instruction to hundreds of players at all levels during the time span. Dave was President of the Glenview (Chicago land) Titans Fast pitch Association for five years (2007-2012), leading his travel softball teams to consecutive top 5 finishes in National tournaments throughout the region. Dave returned to the Roanoke area in January of 2012 and joined Coach Mitchell at Roanoke College in 2013. He is the Recruiting Coordinator for the Maroons and his field responsibilities include hitting and outfield defense. Dave continues to provide private instruction (softball and baseball) for over 100 clients in the surrounding area.


Chris Lauria - Assistant Softball Coach

Chris Lauria started coaching at Roanoke College in 2014. Coach Lauria was a First Team All-State Catcher in 1984 in New Jersey and went on to continue his career as a 4-year starter at the University of North Carolina. He also competed in the Cape Cod Summer Baseball League and the Alaska Summer Baseball League. He previously was an assistant coach at Toms River South from 1993-1996. In 1994 that team went on to win the New Jersey State Baseball Championship and finished #1 in the state and #8 in the USA Today National Baseball poll. Since then Coach Lauria has coached at many different levels and provides private catching lessons. Chris is the catching coach at Roanoke and assists with recruiting.
